UNSC Open Debate on Women Peace and Security

The Security Council marks the 25th anniversary of the landmark resolution 1325 (2000) on Women, Peace and Security. At the related Open Debate convened today, Greece:  

➡️ Confirmed its unwavering support for the advancement of the WPS Agenda

➡️ Emphasized that sustainable peace and security are inseparable from gender equality and condemned all violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms of women, stressing the need for accountability

➡️ Underlined the need for women’s full, equal, and meaningful participation in political and public life and decision-making

➡️ Highlighted the Greek Government’s emphasis on gender mainstreaming across all public administration and budgetary processes

➡️ Praised the Executive Director of UN Women Sima Bahous and her team for their work in promoting the empowerment of women and girls.
