The Security Council convened this morning for a briefing on the situation involving Iran/Israel. PR of Greece, Ambassador Evangelos Sekeris:
➡️ highlighted again the need for de-escalation & restraint, as well as the risks involved for global stability & security
➡️ expressed concern over Iran’s nuclear program & stressed the need to uphold the global non-proliferation regime
➡️ urged the international community to engage so as to avoid a regional, or worse still, a wider conflagration, also echoing UNSG’s call to rally behind diplomacy grounded in international law to deliver lasting peace.
➡️ welcomed today’s E3/EU-Iran talks in Geneva & looked forward to a positive outcome.
