The Security Council convened this morning for a briefing on the situation in Libya, where PR of Greece, Amb. Evangelos Sekeris:
➡️ commended the critical involvement of SRSG Hanna Tetteh and UNSMIL in de-escalating recent tensions and reviving an inclusive political process
➡️ recognized the recent decision by the President of the Presidential Council Mohamed Al-Menfi to establish a temporary Committee as an important step towards restoring stability in Tripoli
➡️ welcomed the holding of the recent meeting of the International Follow-up Commission in Berlin after more than four years and highlighted the need for the format of the meeting to be expanded
➡️ underlined the importance of “IRINI” as a constructive Operation for safeguarding peace and stability in Libya and the entire region, while highlighting the need for control of migration flows in the Mediterranean Sea
➡️ reiterated Greece’s support for Libya’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, a unified country free from any form of foreign intervention and with respect for International Law, including the Law of the Sea.
