At today’s UNSC Briefing on the question concerning Haiti, the Permanent Representative of Greece, Ambassador Evangelos Sekeris:
➡️ Expressed concern about the increasing gang violence that exacerbates the dire humanitarian situation and aims at destabilizing the government. Underlined that restoring security conditions is a prerequisite for the political transition and the peaceful holding of elections
➡️ condemned human rights violations and sexual and gender-based violence, in particular against women and girls
➡️ supported an inclusive and sustainable Haitian-led political transition, aimed at restoring the rule of law and stability
➡️ expressed Greece’s support for BINUH and SRSG Salvador for their efforts and engagement with all stakeholders in Haiti.
