On November 6, the Fourth Committee (Special Political & Decolonization) held its general debate, during which two draft resolutions relating to the global media landscape as well as United Nations communications were adopted. Speakers highlighted the aspect of information wars that are intensifying many current crises.

The Permanent Mission of Greece delivered a statement focusing on the issue of disinformation, the need to protect journalists, the potential uses of Artificial Intelligence as well as the need to enhance multilingualism within the UN.

Regarding the adopted draft resolutions, the first one “Information in the service of humanity” focused on the need to reduce existing disparities in information flows, especially in developing countries. The second draft resolution “United Nations global communications policies and activities” condemns all attacks, reprisals and violence against journalists and media workers.
