“Disarmament and Security” – Focus on outer space, cyberspace & maritime routes

The First Committee of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly concluded its thematic debates on international security and disarmament measures.

Touching upon the critical geopolitics of outer space, the Hellenic Mission reaffirmed its position that peaceful uses of outer space can and ought to prevail over any use of force in space. In addition, the Greek delegate highlighted that prevention of Arms Race in outer space is achievable by a combination of legally and non-legally binding tools. Similarly, the Hellenic Mission stressed its continued dedication to supporting member states efforts for a peaceful and secure cyberspace.

Lastly, addressing the thematic debate on Regional Disarmament, the Greek delegate laid particular emphasis on maritime security, especially within the context of strengthening security and cooperation in the Mediterranean region, in accordance with UNCLOS.
