Greece congratulates the newly elected member-states to the to the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) for the 2025/27 term.
Warm wishes for a successful tenure to Benin, Bolivia, Colombia, Cyprus, Czechia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Gambia, Iceland, Kenya, Marshall Islands, Mexico, North Macedonia, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Spain, Switzerland and Thailand.
As an elected member on the United Nations Security Council, for the biennium 2025/26, the Hellenic Republic commits to working closely with one of the most important bodies of the UN organisation. The promotion and protection of human rights both independently and within the framework of the United Nations is of paramount importance to Greece and it is deemed as the safest means to achieve peaceful, harmonious and functional coexistence among peoples and states.
For the first time in its history in the United Nations, Greece has submitted a candidature for the UN Human Rights Council, for the 2028/30 biennium.
The main pillars of the country’s participation will be respect for international law and the UN Charter, aiming at the protection of vulnerable groups, based on the principles of non-discrimination and diversity. Elections will be held on October 2027, during the United Nations 82nd General Assembly.
