Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, together with Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and CJ Group Vice Chairwoman Miky Lee, became the recipients of the Atlantic Council Global Citizen Award for 2024, in a special ceremony held on September 23, in New York.

Manhattan seems to be the center of the world this week as the United Nations General Assembly convenes, and the attention of the world’s leaders is fixed on an array of conflicts and crises elsewhere” said the President and CEO of the Atlantic Council, Frederick Kempe, stressing that in the face of these modern challenges, the world needs leaders who can make a change.

In his acceptance speech, Greek Premier Mitsotakis thanked the Atlantic Council for the honour bestowed on him personally and stressed that the Award belongs to the Greek people for their courage and effort to bring about the necessary change.

I think it is our responsibility as leaders to look for effective solutions where we can find them. And, eventually, we will be judged by how much would improve people’s lives. We will not be judged simply by how eloquent we are in terms of our public speaking. That is not the yardstick by which you measure the political success of a leader today,” the Prime Minister concluded.

The Atlantic Council promotes constructive leadership and engagement in international affairs based on the Atlantic Community’s central role in meeting global challenges.
